The motif for the Annual Christmas plate from Royal Copenhagen is as always the work of Sven Vestergaard who has taken the story of Copenhagen's first Christmas tree as in inspiration. It was a young doctor and his wife who introduced the Christmas tree custom in their home in 1811. The story goes that the candles on the tree caused quite a fuss in the streets of the cold Danish capital. The Christmas plate shows the tree and a boy watching out expectantly for Santa Claus. The motif appears on the plate, bell, cup and drop. The artist has given us pleasure with his strong and beautiful narratives about our history and nature for more than 20 years This years Christmas Plate motif is called " Waiting for Santa "
